Softball has been on a high this season with a record of 15-5. The team is ranked second in the Ohio Cardinal conference going 6-2 in conference play. The team held their senior night on April 28 against Berlin. This was their second time facing each other and it was for the OCC title. The Braves pulled through with the victory becoming OCC champions for the first time since 2018.
“Our biggest victory this season has definitely been when we came back twice from a 7-run deficit vs Marysville and run-ruled them 27-16,” Nola Tracy ‘27 said.
Left fielder and sophomore, Tracy leads the team in batting average and total hits. She has played on the varsity team for two consecutive years and continues to make her mark on ‘Tangy’s dirt.
“Our team dynamic so far has been very strong. There have been some bumps along the season, but we have always made sure to unite as a team and keep pushing,” Tracy said.
Varsity head coach, Liz Yanez recently earned her 50th win. She has been coaching at Olentangy for four years and has led the team to …. (tournament stuff)
“She has helped me to keep going even when it feels like I can’t anymore. She keeps me out of my head and helps me believe in myself all the time, especially when I feel like I can’t,” Kai Cornelius ‘25 said.
The team has three seniors, two of which are committed to play at the next level. Kai Cornelius has chosen to play division one softball at Murray State University. Cornelius has a .500 batting average and is starting shortstop for the team. Next, Evelyn Dipiero will be heading east to Montreal College. She wears No. 66 and plays alongside her sister, Emelia Dipiero ‘26. Finally, Petra Dissett starts the Braves on first base. She is currently uncommitted.
“What makes my team special is the support and love we all have for each other, the talent we have on all aspects of the game, the work ethic we all bring, and how even when things don’t go our way, we always continue to move forward and find a way to succeed,” Camilla Taylor ‘26 said.
Taylor leads the team in stolen bases. Her contribution to the team has made a positive impact on their road to OCC’s. She is a second baseman for the Braves. Taylor is also committed to play at Murray State College in her future. She also plays soccer for the school, being a crucial part of that team as well.
Overall the team has worked together very well this year and accomplished great things this season. Their chemistry helps them overcome all challenges thrown at them. At the end of the day, this team is something special.
