Taylor Swift might’ve claimed in her album “Lover” she would marry a man with paper rings, but thanks to Travis Kelce and Artifex Fine Jewelry, she doesn’t have to. The pop star announced her engagement to famous tight end Travis Kelce on Aug. 26th, 2025, which excited millions across the globe.
The news was revealed through Instagram, with the post captioned “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married “. The post featured photos of the happy couple in a scenic garden, and garnered over 35 million likes and 2.7 million reposts. However, the buzz over the engagement lasted long after the first announcement, with the public focused on one aspect of the engagement-the ring.
The ring was made by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry, a jewelry design business located in New York City. It is set with an old mine brilliant-cut diamond, which is an antique stone recognizable by its 58 facets and cushion-like shape. These diamonds emerged before present-day gem-design technology existed, so no two are alike. In addition, the ring band itself is engraved.
“It’s my engraved pieces that put me on the digital map. I started making reels showcasing my work, and people started noticing. Eventually, I started getting requests for me to make engagement rings,” Lubeck said, according to People Magazine.
Those who grew up with the eras or have listened to Swift for a long time are elated about the announcement, with many happy she has overcome past relationship difficulties.
“As someone who has been a fan of Taylor for a very long time, and has seen a lot of the relationships she has gone through and the heartbreaking songs she wrote about them, I am very happy with the news she finally found someone who treats her well,” Yashitha Rajesh, a freshman and fan of Swift, said.
However, not everyone has positive feelings about the engagement. Many fans across websites such as Mumsnet and Reddit are displeased with both the ring and the engagement; they believe the ring is gaudy and the engagement a publicity stunt. These views are in the minority, though. Overall, the response is positive.
“Honestly, I think it’s nice, and I don’t understand the hate that it’s receiving,” McKenna Gilligan, a freshman, said.
Overall, the union has made history, with much more excitement sure to come as wedding plans begin. The queen of love songs has at last found her Prince Charming, and millions were there to watch it happen.
