Sora AI shocks the internet

Over the past few weeks a new app named Sora AI, created by the same organization who made ChatGPT, has taken the internet by storm. Sora is a platform where you can create realistic videos with AI. It uses prompts that you give it yourself, and the realism of the videos, being able to have multiple characters, a lot of movement and sound all in high resolution, everyone all over the internet reacted in shock, and how much AI has improved in significant ways over its few years of existence so far.

On the other hand, some people don’t like how real the platform is, and people believed the first bunch of videos uploaded to TikTok with it were real. And with all of the realism, some of the public think that AI is headed the wrong way because of people being able to mix up what is real and what isn’t nowadays.

“I don’t think Sora is scary or too realistic at all. I really like using the app because I can literally make a video of whoever I want. I see people making insane videos of their friends doing absolutely insane things, not me though, I don’t use it for bad, at least not yet.” Ricardo Salas ‘26 said.

What separates Sora AI from the rest of the AI video creation apps, is Sora’s advanced technology can create complex scenes with multiple people or characters, a lot of detail to objects and the background, with realistic motions and voice which comes from all of the characters. When Sora first gained attention, there was one thing that stopped most of the public from accessing the platform. You needed an invite code from somebody else to be allowed to create videos. Which limited millions of people from using Sora.

“Yeah I did actually get tricked by those Jake Paul makeup videos, those were like the first videos I saw with Sora. They were really funny, but yeah it was kinda creepy that I got tricked with them for a couple days.” Jacob Dorst ‘28 said.

No matter where you stand on your views about Sora AI, it will be interesting for everyone to see what the next steps for AI are, where it goes from here, and where it will be in the future.
