The Olentangy Girls’ Basketball team has had quite the successful season so far with a record of 16-3 overall and a 7-0 conference record. This puts the team in first in the Ohio Capital Cardinal conference. The Lady Braves had significant wins over Olentangy Berlin, Olentangy Orange and Dublin Jerome.
According to the Columbus Dispatch, as of Jan. 28, their current rank in the Ohio Super 25 high school girls’ basketball poll is 16th. With a total of 151 points throughout the 19 games they have played. Their bond on and off the court puts them a step ahead from other schools.
“The team and program are super connected. It is full of great kids who enjoy being around each other and working hard for a common goal. The group has been very coachable and eager to continue to grow in a variety of ways. I thoroughly enjoy the time spent with them every day and look forward to seeing the best version of this group here in the next few weeks,” head coach, Klark Ransome said.
The senior class will leave a strike in the team’s legacy and their teammates’ love for the sport. The underclassmen look up to their work ethic and strive to make regionals and win their conference.
“I would say I look up to all of the upperclassmen because of how hard they work as well as still being able to have and make the whole program enjoyable,” Payton Kolberg ‘27 said.
As districts become closer each day, the girls continue to work hard and hold each other accountable through their challenges.
“We push each other in practice every day so that when a game comes, we are super prepared and ready to play our best,” Meryl Kolath ‘25 said.
The school will celebrate their memories of the past four years on Feb. 14 against Dublin Jerome. Kolath has committed to Trine University to continue her basketball career. Camden Spitzer is going to the University of Hawaii. Chayla Rankin is committed to the University of Indiana for Track and field, as during her junior year she won 2024 state High Jump champion. Lastly, Ally Thomas will attend Ohio University this fall.
On Friday, Feb. 7, the girls take on Hilliard Darby in hopes to keep their undefeated OCC record.
