On Jan. 10, the first game of the 2025 volleyball season was underway. A match between the Omaha Supernovas and Atlanta Vibe played in the CHI Health Center in Omaha, NE to set another record for the highest attendance at a women’s professional volleyball match. Over 13,000 spectators were there to support these newborn teams, they work to develop a new culture for volleyball in the U.S.
Merritt Beason made her debut for the Atlanta Vibe as the first pick of the PVF draft which was held Nov. 25, 2024. As of today, The Vibe is ranked first in the pre-season poll.
The Omaha Supernova, 2024 league champions, beat the No. 1 team for the first game of the year. These two teams introduced the league with this game last year and continue to raise the level of competition for future seasons to come.
“I am really excited to see the reunions of OSU players Mac Podraza and Emily Londot at Omaha. Also, Elena Scott and Anna DeBeer Louisville reunion at Indy,” volleyball coach Nicole Keller said.
Indy Ignite played their first game in franchise history against the Orlando Valkyries. They lost the first set but battled back throughout the next three.
“I’m most excited to watch Indy Ignite because one of my favorite players Kylie Murr is on that team and I haven’t watched her since she played for OSU,” Volleyball player, Reagan Fields ‘27 said.
The Ignite picked up Indiana native, Kylie Murr, star OSU libero, from the Vegas Thrill. She will start as libero for the season.
The future is bright for this league as teams have started to flourish in their skill and strategy. The PVF championship will take place May 15-18, 2025, and all the teams will be hard at work in a race for the trophy.
