Horror takes over 2025

Horror takes over 2025

In the year of 2025 so far, there have been countless amounts of great horror films and shows that have been released, especially around Halloween time. With all of the recent releases of horror, here are some of the good and some of the bad.

To start off, one of the most popular horror movies of this year, was “Weapons, which brought in $267.5 million dollars, with a $38 million budget. This movie started to gain popularity with the creepy marketing online and its original plot. All kidsin one classroom all ran out of their houses and into the dark at 2:17am, and the community has to figure out where the kids are and who is behind the kids’ disappearance. This movie really creeped me out, and Zach Cregger does an amazing job in being director in this movie with being able to bring in a great story, amazing jumpscares, while being able to incorporate a good amount of comedy at the same time, in his second showing as a director. The only flaw with this movie is that the pacing is a little slow, with most of the public saying that it is too long to get to the climax, with a very abrupt ending. But other than that, it is a much-watch movie around Halloween time.

The next horror movie that has made a lot of noise this year so far is “Black Phone 2”. While it is new to theaters this October, it has already grossed over $100 million, with a lot of the public debating on whether or not this movie is better than the first. This sequel takes on a more supernatural aspect, as the film follows Finney’s sister, Gwen, with bad vivid dreams of kids being stalked at a summer camp. Which makes Finney and Gwen feel like they need to show up to that summer camp, where Finney encounters the grabber once again, who is back from the dead, and more powerful than ever. While I think this movie is a little weaker than the first and not a completely necessary sequel, I still think it is a creepy, and unsettling movie for the Halloween season.

And the final mentioned horror movie from this year is the final movie in the Conjuring franchise, “The Strangers – Chapter 2”. This is an ongoing trilogy which is a remake of the 2008 movie, which was pretty well reviewed. This year’s movie, and the one that came before it on the other hand, were not. This movie follows the group of killers realizing that Maya, a girl who survived the attack on her and her husband in a remote cabin. The unknown killers now knowing this, return to finish the job. This movie can be found as sloppy, unorganized, and all over the place. While it is easy to agree with those reviews, the movie does pick up towards the end, with the climax and the ending being a situation where you have to sit up in your chair, the rest of the movie can be described as a dumpster fire. The plot is so dry, the camerawork and writing is very poor. While I can understand some of the positive reviews, I would recommend to stay away this film when looking for good scary movies to watch.
