Olentangy High School first opened in 1953 on Shanahan Road. The current school was built in 1990 to accommodate the enlarged population. OHS is ranked number four in the Columbus Metro area and number 16 in Ohio.
“I think we have high expectations, dedicated students, families involved, and amazing teachers,” Vice Principal Adam Brenner said.
OHS is known for its exceptional academic performance. It is recognized as a National Blue Ribbon school. ‘Tangy also offers a wide range of Advanced Placement classes and College Credit Plus courses for students to earn college credit.
“I feel like no matter what you’re interested in, OHS has at least one AP for everything. This means anyone could excel in APs regardless of what they’re interested in,” sophomore Arush Krisp said.
Olentangy offers clubs and organizations for students to participate in. The clubs provide a fun environment for students to make new friends and achieve personal goals.
“All these clubs have really kind and patient leaders who open their clubs to those who are inexperienced,” Ayushna Biswal, a sophomore at OHS, said.
The teachers at ‘Tangy make sure to create a safe environment for students. The teachers understand, support and show kindness to all students. This environment helps students thrive.
“What makes Olentangy High School great is the supportive teachers and the positive learning environment,” sophomore Medha Kuppa said.
Sports are also one of the reasons why OHS is so incredible. The school offers over 20 athletic opportunities with exceptional players who bring home victories. A great example of this is the baseball team who won the state championship for the school.
“Winning the state title is something I’ll never forget. It was a feeling of just accomplishment,” William Hennegan ’26 said. “We had a losing record at the start of the year and then to come back to win the state title was crazy.”
Olentangy is number four in Central Ohio because it has teachers who understand, dedicated students, offers classes that challenge learners, and a wide variety of after-school activities. Without the efforts of everyone at the school, Olentangy today would not be the great school everyone knows.
