Broadcasts growth reflects students' creativity

‘Tangy Today has always been a core part of our school day, and over the past few years, it’s expanded into what is even more spirited. The program continues to share important updates, but it now also blends humor, creativity, and personality to make each broadcast a highlight of the school day for multiple students. The program has had incredible growth, yet this didn’t just happen overnight; rather, it’s the result of collaboration between students who share a love and passion as well as a goal that encourages them to succeed. As fresh ideas come in and the school gets more involved, ‘Tangy Today shows how much passion and pride students have for our school.

“I joined Tangy Today because I love being creative and wanted to be part of something that connects the whole school.
It feels awesome knowing something we make can reach everyone and brighten their day,” Jet Cornelius ‘27 said.

Cornelius’ enthusiasm highlights the excitement of how it is to be a part of the program. ‘Tangy Today is more than just a club and more of a way to leave a mark on the school. Being a part of the program gives students a chance to explore their creativity, which benefits the whole school. Members like Corneilus and Kevin Nell ’27 make the announcements much more lively and exciting to watch by adding new ideas, humor, and an engaging perspective to the program.

“The announcements help build school community because it keeps everyone in the loop about what is going on at OHS. It gives students agency to promote their clubs and organizations to their peers, connect with one another through celebrating athletic and academic success, and bring 5 minutes of joy through fun segments, such as “pass or class.” Ms. Macdowell said

MacDowell’s view highlights how ‘Tangy Today has shifted from a simple morning update to a student-driven platform that sparks new connections. ‘Tangy Today gives students a space to show achievements, share announcements, and add a fun twist to segments. The program is more than just a broadcast, but more of a program that cultivates the school’s culture. Her thoughts point out reasons the show is such a strong part of our day: students aren’t just watching the news, they’re enjoying what our school is shaped of and celebrating others, giving OHS pride every day.

“I’ve noticed that people have become more energetic and less nervous to anchor since I’ve joined. As for which part I enjoy the most, I’m gonna have to go with anchoring and making fun segments,” Ethan Buday ‘26 said.

Ethan Buday has seen ‘Tangy Today’s growth firsthand. Buday’s presence on ‘Tangy Today has become one of the program’s most recognizable aspects through his role as the show’s weather anchor/expert. His confidence on Camera and ability to balance important information with humor make the segment more enjoyable. Which makes what could be repeated information into what students look forward to. By bringing energy and personality into the broadcast, Buday plays a key role in bringing out the show’s tone, which keeps viewers interested.

As ‘Tangy Today continues to grow, it remains a reflection of the students who bring the program to life every morning. Through collaboration, creativity, and confidence, students bring the announcements a simple thing to look forward to. Which strengthens school spirit and connections. From anchors and crew members to creative segments and live voices, the program reflects students’ hard work and efforts to shape the culture of Olentangy High School. Join ‘Tangy Today next year to be a part of all the fun and energy throughout our school.
