The word skinny comes to teenage girls’ minds daily. The thought about being smaller. Feeling more confident. They compare themselves to every girl they see daily. One way or another they pick out flaws in themselves. Wishing they were built differently, looked better, and felt prettier. Teenagers know they are not perfect, but the thought of not being attractive for anybody scares them. They compare themselves to cover girls. They have perfect bodies. Clear skin, and gorgeous hair. The truth is nobody has a perfect body. They might look better than one, but it doesn’t mean they are perfect. Maybe they look like this because they felt like they had to.
Magazines make a girl dream. Life is not rainbows and butterflies. Girls are not all going to have bodies which look perfect, but instead it makes each one unique. Nobody should judge someone because of their body shape. Appearances don’t define the kind of person one is. Embracing themselves is what they should be doing.
A girl should not work so hard to fit into clothes or to look a certain way for somebody or something, instead the clothes or person should accept or fit them. This is a really powerful quote because it explains girls should not have high expectations or standards.
Women are not only setting expectations for themselves they try to fit, but they are also trying to fit others people’s expectations. And this is what can really leave a woman’s physical health out of shape.
Due to women having such high expectations they will change their whole identity to fit in. The problem with this is then they are judged about doing it. If a woman stopped eating it is all of a sudden an eating disorder, but if she eats too much she is fat. If she wears too much make up she tries too hard, but if she doesn’t wear enough she looks sick. If she talks too much to guys she is an attention seeker, but if she doesn’t talk to boys enough she’s lonely.
Society has set high expectations which have become impossible for people to fit in. The idea of a perfect body has been shaped and formed so perfectly to where it is all just a dream. People think being a woman is so easy. If it is, maybe they should try to have a day in girls’ lives.
