The school’s broadcast class, also known as ‘Tangy Today, live streamed for six hours to raise money for the program. With over a thousand raised, the team was excited and proud of the show. One of the program’s co-producers Evie Davis was the primary head for the project.
“The day of the telethon was all nerves. Knowing most people would be watching during the school day, the first few hours had to be perfect and honestly, we got pretty close,” sophomore Davis said. “I am proud of our group as a whole for all working together and grinding out the script before we went live.”
Another sophomore on the project, Hayley Shiflett focused on sports and entertainment segments for the program. Along with being a host, Shiflett adlibbed with her co-anchors to entertain the viewers between segments.
“Even though planning the telethon was stressful and it felt like we were all doing stuff last minute it overall went so much better than I thought it would with how much money we raised as well as how much fun we had doing it,” Shiflet said.
First year senior Mary Robinson worked on sports segments for the Telethon. Robinson also led a collaboration with Raising Canes for the raffle. The raffle was one of the ways the program raised funds.
“Planning it was definitely difficult, but once we got into it, it was super fun and successful,” Robinson said.
The program is beyond thankful for its sponsors and donors for the support. The team hopes to host the event again next year and make it bigger. If you wish to support ‘Tangy Today, follow them at @ohstangytoday to learn more about ways to donate.
