This past weekend the swim and dive teams travelled to Canton, Ohio to compete in the state tournament. The girls’ team had six qualifiers: Evelyn Fitz, Adelyn Espy, Olivia Baker, Lia Bruncak, Brooke Nagy and Natalie Sagle. The girls had a great tournament as Fitz finished fourth in the state for one meter diving. Espy was able to break her previous school record with a 54.99 in the 100 backstroke. Nagy with a podium finish got fourth in the 50 freestyle and fifth in the 100 butterfly.
The boys’ team also had a great weekend. Matthew Sagle, Owen Thomas, Evan Tillman, Jack Mcgrath, Brody Van Frayen, Eddie Campion and Thomas Naylor all qualified. The boys relay broke their own school record yet again finished seventh in the state. McGrath finished 20th in the 100 breaststroke and Campion finished 14th in the 500 freestyle. Sagle also finished 18th in the 100 freestyle and 14th in the 200 freestyle.
“The best part of making it to state was simply realizing you were able to make it to that level, even if it doesn’t go as planned,” senior Jack Mcgrath said.
With many early mornings the team always showed up for before school practices. Through hard work and dedication, the team made the season one to remember with great performances throughout the season and at state.
“Having such a big team and being able to grow and improve as a team and individually over the whole season was my favorite part,” sophomore Adelyn Espy said.
Congratulations to the swim team and their great season!
