On Feb. 4, as a gift to her fans for the two Grammys she received for “Short n’ Sweet,” Sabrina Carpenter announced on her Instagram, the album’s deluxe version would be released on all music platforms. “Short n’ Sweet Deluxe” was set to release on Feb. 14, the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for Carpenter’s fans.
The deluxe version included four brand new, unheard songs alongside the fan favorite, “Please Please Please,” which was reintroduced with special guest Dolly Parton. While all songs have been released on YouTube with official lyric videos, “Please Please Please” is as of now the only song with an official music video that features Carpenter and Parton.
These deluxe songs have an upbeat vibe with Carpenter’s iconic lines. All the deluxe songs are enjoyable, but one which sticks out to me the most is “Couldn’t Make It Any Harder” because of the beat throughout the song, and how well the song flows together as a whole. The majority of listeners noticed right away the similarities between “Couldn’t Make It Any Harder” and “Hopelessly Devoted to You” from the hit film version of the musical “Grease.” While the songs have similar beats and rhythms, they are both enjoyable songs on their own.
The other songs included in the deluxe version include, “15 Minutes,” “Busy Woman” and “Bad Reviews.” I think these five songs are a perfect addition to the already-hit album. They show a different side of Carpenter and were a great way to reignite the hype back to “Short n’ Sweet.” Overall, I would give these deluxe songs 4 out of 5 espressos.
