Olentangy Braves’ Ice Hockey has had one of their best seasons in years. They have a record of 8-3-2 in their conference. All of the Braves losses have been fought till the end in overtime which shows the determination this team has. They are fourth in the top division of their conference and have not made it in that high of a division in years. This past weekend the team finished fourth in the CBJ cup, with a tough double overtime loss against New Albany. They fought hard all the way until the end but unfortunately New Albany slipped the puck into the back of the net with two minutes left in the second overtime.
“This hockey season is going great. Our team has more chemistry than last year and works together as a team and not only individuals. We recently got the farthest we’ve ever gotten in possible Braves history in the CBJ cup which shows how much our team has grown this year. Me and the team are looking forward to playing for the State Cup this weekend,” Varsity starter Elijah Wyse ‘27 said.
As the Braves made their way into the State Cup they decided as a group to bleach their hair. Before team dinner they all attended the hair salon and waited for each other to get their hair done. They did not leave the place until the last person’s hair was finished, which shows how strong of a bond this team has. This bond never fails to show on the ice either.
“I was really excited for this season; one last ride with the boys. This year our team is strong and determined to get better every practice and grow from every game. I’m hopeful our team will make it far in the State Cup,” Varsity starter Grant Levins ‘25 said.
On Saturday the 15th Braves crushed their first CBJ cup game against St. Xavier with a score of 4-1. The boys played physical and went out on the ice aggressive and wanting to win. Grant Levins scored the team’s final goal on an open net shot to ensure their win. They knew this game was important and would determine if their season continues or ends.
“We knew we had to go out there and fight for every goal because the team wouldn’t allow our season to end this early on. We practice with the intent to win, and it shows out there on the ice every game,” Jake Redin ‘27 said.
Braves play their next CBJ cup game on Saturday the 22nd hoping to win and advance to play on Sunday the 22nd.
