On Nov. 15, 2024, AT&T Stadium will host the boxing match between 58-year-old Hall of Fame boxer, Mike Tyson, and 27-year-old YouTube star, Jake Paul.
To accompany Tyson’s poor stamina the two men will compete for eight, two-minute rounds. On top of this, gloves will weigh 14 ounces instead of the regular 10.
The original fight was supposed to take place on July 20, 2024; however, Tyson had an ulcer flare up and was ineligible to compete. During the flare, he lost 26 lbs. and was not able to walk or speak.
Mixed opinions are on the rise as to who will win. As Tyson was one of the most feared fighters in his prime, known as the man that bit another man’s ear off, 19 years later reporters seem to believe his talent has faded.
“I think Mike Tyson will win the fight because he has more experience and willpower than Jake Paul,” Carlye Condon ‘26 said.
Paul, however, is young with powerful stamina. This will be an advantage to him the longer the fight progresses.
“I believe Jake Paul will win because he is in his prime and he has good stability compared to Tyson, because his muscles and bones have weakened as he has been fighting for much longer. Overall, Paul’s youth will bring him a great advantage,” Sydney Funk ‘27 said.
Regardless of endurance, experience will be a crucial factor. Tyson’s professional fight record is 50-6, 44 in knockouts. Paul’s record is 10-1, seven in knockouts.
“I do not think Paul has been hit by the likes of a punch thrown by Tyson. I think Tyson wins early,” Ty Higgins, long-time Tyson fan said.
A fair amount of boxers views this fight as dangerous and irresponsible because of Tyson’s age. Since he is over 36, Tyson is required to send an electroencephalography (EEG) and an electrocardiogram (EKG) to confirm that officials approve of his health status prior to the match. He claims the 31-year age gap has nothing on him.
After months upon months of preparation and suspense, on Friday night, the reputations of both fighters will be affected. Paul vs Tyson. Who will win?
