Olentangy bowls into new season
The Olentangy bowling team has formulated their official teams, and are ready for the long season ahead of them. Almost the entire boys’ bowling team graduated last year with only one returning. The girls’ team has five returning members. There is only one senior out of both the boys’ and girls’ teams this year.
Tryouts saw the most amount of participants in the history of the program this year. Over 20 girls and 20 boys bowled for a spot on the Varsity team. Only 12 were allowed on each team.
“I am looking forward to competing in all the tournaments to showcase what Olentangy can do,” girl’s bowling coach, Tony Claar, said.
The girls team placed sixth last year at Districts against a total of 16 teams. Two seniors graduated in the 2018-2019 season, leaving only Kristen M. to guide both teams this year.
“I feel nervous about being the only senior on the team, but I am glad to have the people who bowled last year next to me. It is nerve wracking to be the only senior to come back, but having the coaches and friends makes me calm. It is going to be so much fun having new people join in on this amazing sport,” Kristen M. ‘20, said.
The girls placed first at their first Varsity tournament on Nov. 23.
Along with the girls’ team, the boys’ team has new students placed in the position to build up the team.
“I am very excited to show team pride for Olentangy, and to be able to be a part of the team. I am looking forward to all the tournaments and bus rides together. I really cannot wait to make new friends, and I am excited to meet new people and bond with them throughout the years,” Nate H. ‘22 said.
Players ride to and from matches and tournaments together to bond and debrief together from the victories and losses. The boys’ team also participated in their first varsity tournament on Nov. 23, and they placed 26th out of the 30 teams.
The players have just begun their season, and there are future matches and tournaments for the newly developed team to endure together.

It was a good read because I personally do not know much about bowling, but it is always fun when I go. The writer followed the inverted pyramid well, and I now know more about the bowling team at Olentangy.

How did Kristen handle all that stress and nervousness about being the only senior?
