At the end of Aug, the Keynotes and Shenotes went to Shanahan Middle School and gave the students an energized performance. The musical performance visit provided an opportunity to encourage the students interested to join high school options music and develop connections among the different schools.

Middle school students got their first taste of a high school-level show choir when the Keynotes and Shenotes performed with strong vocals, talented choreography, and high-energy talent. Multiple students stated the experience inspired them to join the show choir in the future.

“During our performance at SMS, one moment that stood out to me was how eager the middle school students were to ask questions about our program. Many students seemed very interested in joining, and we are always looking for students to get involved,” Nrush Elchuri, a senior in Keynotes, said.

The younger students appreciated the visit because it was an example of how hard work can be seen on a stage. The visit reinforced classroom lessons on discipline and teamwork while it highlighted the long-term benefits of arts education, and gave them a more observable and applicable feel.

The Olentangy Local School District has a long history of musical excellence. Showchoir creates disciplined and talented students. This visit encourages young performers to join the arts.

“I’ve seen many of my peers change from scared little freshmen to confident leaders,” Sam Cushman ‘26  said. “ I’ve also seen many step up and accomplish so much more than a younger version of themselves would have thought possible.”

The students saw it as more than a show they enjoyed; it demonstrated what is achievable if they continue to pursue their passions. A thought their performance leaves is, “Someday, that could be me.”
